I am a mixed media artist and have been making art and installations in Lawrence, Kansas since 1971.  I've exhibited in the US and Canada in juried, group and one-person shows.  As a mixed media artist, I employ a variety of media and techniques: Assemblage, Encaustic, Printmaking, Collage, Eco-printing and Dying, Photography and Instllations.

Assemblage is a type of art that is written in by bones.  I find and re-purpose objects to become symbolic and expressive elements in a composition.  Found objects have a history and a patina that time and weather imprint on them.

The encaustic medium lends itself nicely to mixed media and assemblage. Encaustic is a beeswax mixture that is applied when melted as a paint or coating or adhesive.

I have tried various printmaking techniques but gravitate to monoprints or monotypes because of their immediacy.  The artist  draws or paints on a plexiglass plate with oil or water-based ink, then it is sent through a press with paper on top and voila!  A collagraph is a monoprint but the printing plate is a sort of assemblage of low relief elements that are inked up and printed.  Monoprints and Collagraphs can be printed in a series or edition, but they are all different and unique.

Photography is another technique I use.   I typically combine images in Photoshop so they are layered in order to create depth of meaning and content.  I also use my photos with encaustic, sometimes layering images printed on tissue, which are transluscent, over a background.  Some of my photographs are straight forward scenes of beauty or interest.

I hope you enjoy browsing through the different images and techniques.  Please feel free to email me with any questions.  I can be found on Pinterest as Margaret Rose and on Instagram as roseisaroseisarose.
